Tips for winning websites

Tips for winning websites

When it comes to websites everything should be perfect, the development, design and the contents. Far too many websites are done hastily and unprofessionally without even referring to the professionals with their enterprise project management. This doesn’t create a good impact on the company or business the site represents. Web design should be most unique, simple and professional to attract customers like any professionally developed software application. It should be built on previous experience of other similar sites and should be planned carefully and executed with care and attention to detail. Everything matters, a small spelling mistake can repel many customers. In order to attract them you need to have a site that’s easy to read, navigate and browse. Don’t use fancy scripts or dark backgrounds with light letters. Unless it’s a horror movie site, it won’t look good with a custom wordpress theme. Stick to the most elegant and simple forms and you will do well. Make sure you know who your site is for and cater to the target audience. Business sites should be fast loading with minimum flourish and maximum information that’s up to the point and easy to get. No one likes waste time waiting for pages to load. keep in mind that there are many other sites users can go to and remember they may be tired, so make the task of browsing your site enjoyable and stress-free.

Making the most of good web design

Making the most of good web design

To make a good site all the ingredients of it – web software development, web design and professional copy – should be up to scratch to make a popular vehicle for online success. Let’s get some tips on web design up our sleeves today and try to see what we can do to make our website more attractive to clients and users everywhere. First of all, knowing the client you are aiming at is important. Do it for the user behind that laptop, not yourself. Make your site good-looking in all browsers, all sizes screens and make sure it’s easy to read and navigate. Do not forget that your site will be visible not only on a PC or laptop but on mobile phones and iPad.

That's why it must be compatible with these modern devices. If you aren't aware of the compatibility issues you need to refer to iPad application developers. Too much colorful and technological stuff like invitations to start live chats or web conferencing and sign in for a quick look around are unnecessary and annoying, they will make users go away without the desire to return. Welcoming pages, self-loading video, pop-ups and scrolling text are all time-waters, people don’t like them, they don’t have any time to waste these days. Make your site up to the point, concise, easy to read and search, navigate and browse.

Websites that are well-made will surely be a hit with users, those that are fancy for the sake of showing off will go down unnoticed. Use our tips and have fun with them.

t’s never a good experience to expect to see a webpage and to get a 404 error, most of us will just hit the back button on the browser when experiencing such a thing. Since errors will happen no matter how good your website is, it’s a good idea to improve your 404 page to make it as useful as possible, the main challenge being to keep those visitors on your site.

What should your 404 page be?

Your 404 page should be branded

Don’t let your visitors in the wild, let them know that they are on your website by inputing some of the visual elements that make your website recognizable.

Your 404 page should be informative

When arriving on the page, the reader should know that he didn’t reach the page he was expecting right away. Inform him of what happened.

Your 404 page should be useful

If your viewers happen to reach a 404 page, it would be good to guide them through your site to let them find what they want. To achieve this, you can add some useful links and a search box, some will add links to popular posts or promotions.

Your 404 page should be tracked

Why don’t you add a tracker to your 404 page to know what happened, what people who stumbled on that page where looking for or where they were coming from?

How to add keyword description meta tags in a webpage

Ok. Today i will explain about a little seo strategies that are really very necessary to get you o the top of search engines. Yes I am talking here about meta tags that are most important for any website or blog. In my previous post about meta tags for blogspot , I explained how to add meta tags on a blogger blog but this will explain how to add meta tags on a web page.

Let’s begin

Almost every site on the web has used these two “key” meta tags, descriptions and keywords and some of these contains three and third one is keypharases. The description meta tag gives a brief summary about a page or website. The keywords give the search engines some extra information when someone searches for a specific query. You shouldn’t have the same keywords you used in your description (why?) because Google already picks the most important keywords for you. This sums up the basic explanation of meta tags.

How to Add Keyword Meta Tags

Step 1. Open up the page you want to SEO

Step 2. Go into your page’s code view

Step 3. Locate the <head></head> tags

Step 4. Inside these tags, insert the below code

<meta name="keywords" content="keyword1, keyword2, keyword3, this is a key phrase, another key phrase" />

If you notice I added some random keywords to give you a sense of how to go about populating the keyword tag. Notice how each word is separated with a comma. If you wanted you could make key phrases instead of words or both. Key phrases work the same way, separated with a comma.

How to Add Description Meta Tags

Step 1. Open up the page you want to SEO

Step 2. Go into your page’s code view

Step 3. Locate the <head></head> tags

Step 4. Inside these tags, insert the below code

<meta name="description" content="This is where a description of your site goes..." />

The meta description is similar to the meta keywords except you don’t insert commas after every word. The description should be a short summary of your entire website/page. As you can see I already added, “This is where a description of your site goes…” All you have to do is edit that part and your set. SEO doesn’t take any special knowledge, it only takes time.

Description of the “Neatty” theme…

A decent theme that’s free of charge. It offers flexibility to it’s bloggers, and provides a diverse look. All in all I give this theme a four out of five rating. Why not a five? The only reasons is because it can act buggy in some situations. One of the bus don’t correctly align the text around images. Other then these minor issues this is an excellent, sick theme.

Google Adds Page Speed To Its Ranking Factor

http://www.honeytechblog.com/micro-news/google-adds-page-speed-ranking-factor/Google Adds Page Speed To Its Ranking Factor Google Adds Page Speed To Its Ranking Factor

Google’s algorithm for ranking websites is one of the greatest mysteries on the planet. While webmasters are still locating how easily the sites could be ranked by Google, the Mountain View Company has added yet another factor to its ranking algorithm. Yes, now if you wish to get better ranking from Google, then your loading speed of your site page must be fast, because page loading speed is now a factor in search result ranking.

Amit Singhal, Google Fellow and Matt Cutts, Principal Engineer, Google Search Quality Team wrote -

Speeding up websites is important — not just to site owners, but to all Internet users. Faster sites create happy users and we’ve seen in our internal studies that when a site responds slowly, visitors spend less time there. But faster sites don’t just improve user experience; recent data shows that improving site speed also reduces operating costs. Like us, our users place a lot of value in speed — that’s why we’ve decided to take site speed into account in our search rankings. We use a variety of sources to determine the speed of a site relative to other sites.

Although it is an important factor, not too many are contend with this sudden update. Actually this feature is live for quite some now, but the official announcement is made now by Google. It is now live for English version of Google.com and perhaps will be rolled for other local version soon. Google also shares some of the Webmasters tools to check out the speed such as Page Speed, YSlow and WebPagetest.

Your wordpress blog must have these SEO plugins

SEO, SEO, SEO. In fact, real traffic of a website is that which comes from search engines just like google, yahoo, msn etc...  So, you have to optimize your wordpress blog to make it search engine friendly. There are several methods to do seo but today, I will explain the functions of best seo plugins for wordpress that will make your blog populated.

I have used blogpsot blog, wordpress blog and static html website, but from all of these wordpress gets indexed quickly as compared to others. So, you should use these plugins to get indexed by search engines and get a lot of traffic.

Search engine optimization for wordpress

1. All in One SEO Pack

This allows you to set the basic SEO stuff for your blog. You need page titles, meta tags, keywords, and descriptions. This plugin allows you to configure them for either your entire blog or on a post by post basis.

2. Redirection

From time to time you make changes on your blog. Sometimes these changes end up breaking your Permalink structure. This often happens when you make a change to an old post, or do an upgrade to Wordpress and make some changes to the permalinks. It’s very very common if you move your blog from one host to another.

Basically what happens is that each post has a unique URL, called a permalink. When this changes, visitors who go to that blog post won’t find it. The redirection plugin helps you fix these problems by redirecting the visitor to the new permalink. This reduces the amount of traffic you get to pages that don’t exist.

3. Robots Meta

By default search engines crawl and index ALL the pages on your blog. This isn’t ideal, because it creates duplicate content and you can get yourself punished by search engines without knowing it. What the Robots Meta plugin allows you to do is tell the search engines which sections of your blog to crawl. This means that you’ll get more respect from search engines, and likely more traffic.

4. SEO Smart Links

One of the key issues with SEO is your internal linking structure. The more you link to a certain page on your blog, the more important it is to your overall content. Search engines treat your internal links as an indication of how well structured your site is. The problem with this is that if you had to manually go and create links to relevant and important posts you’ll spend hours and hours doing it.

SEO Smart links allows you to specify a word, like ‘SEO’ and then link it to a post on your site. Then each time the word SEO appears on your site, it’s automatically turned into a link you specified.

5. SEO Friendly Images

Images also play an important role in your SEO strategy. So it’s important that you tag them correctly. SEO Friendly images allows you to do this, and saves you hours and hours of work. If, like most bloggers you use images in your posts, then this plugin is essential.

6. Google Positioner

It’s important to know your keywords. And this handy plugin allows you to track the keywords you’re getting searches for. It’s pointless selecting a few keywords, then writing some content for those keywords and hoping that the rest goes well. SEO is about being proactive and tracing what works and what doesn’t.

7. Permalinks Moved Permanently

A common mistake bloggers make is choosing the wrong permalink structure. When you start your blog you think you know which is best, and as time goes buy you want to change your permalink structure. The problem with changing your permalink structure is that your traffic will come to a standstill until your site is reindexed, and that could take months.

This plugin is similar to redirect but is an easier and better way to manage permanent permalink changes.

8. Nofollow Case by Case

The nofollow attribute over the last year or two has had a fairly large impact on the blogosphere. All comments in Wordpress by default are nofollow links. This means that no Page Rank (PR) is being given via the link. This plugin changes that and makes comment links valuable again. There are a number of reasons you would want to give away link juice. It’s often used to attract people and encourage them to comment. It can be very useful for new blogs who need some exposure.

9. SEO Slugs

Stop words are ignored by search engines. So most of your post titles have them in, but they are meaningless to search engines. So when you have a post title like this: “What You Can Do Immediately For Higher Rankings” you have a permalink like this: ‘/what-you-can-do-immediately-for-higher-rankings’ but what you really want is for your permalink to look like this: /immediately-higher-rankings.

This plugin automatically removes stop words from the permalink, helping you to rank better.

If you feel this post helpful then why not tweet or digg it. Your comments are welcomed.
